These are incredibly strong magnets! When I saw these, I immediately thought of a different way of using them. Yeah, the tube on the top of the one magnet makes it easy to put the pin of a brooch through it so you don’t ruin your clothes and the magnets are so strong that they’ll hold a heavy brooch securely. Also, there are no rough edges on these magnets or anything that will catch on your clothing or cause pulls on a sweater, though the brooch’s pin might. I can strongly recommend these for their intended purpose. However, I ordered these to use in quilting. I do a lot of English Paper Piecing (cardstock paper shapes with fabric shapes folded over the edges of the cardstock and temporarily secured to the paper either with basting stitches or washable glue). When sewing 2 shapes together along an edge, you have to hold the 2 pieces together strongly so that they don’t shift as you sew them so that the points at the beginning and end of the seam meet exactly. The magnets really work well to hold the pieces together in place while sewing. There is a product out there designed for quilters which is basically the same thing but without that little metal tube on top. That doesn’t get in the way for me and I’m able to whip stitch each seam much easier and faster. Also, for reference, these magnets are holding very tightly through 2 to 4 layers of cotton fabric and 2 layers of 80 wt cardstock. I put the magnet close to the edge so part of the magnet is over the seam allowance and part is not, hence 2 to 4 layers of cotton.
